Jeremie Frimpong Arrives in Ghana, Embraces Heritage on First Visit

Dutch-born-Ghanaian defender Jeremie Frimpong has expressed his joy and excitement after arriving in Ghana for the first time. The 23-year-old Netherlands international landed at Kotoka International Airport on Sunday night to a warm reception, marking the beginning of a one-week holiday to connect with his roots.

Frimpong, whose parents are Ghanaian, had previously announced his intentions to visit the country following Bayer Leverkusen’s Champions League victory over Inter Milan earlier this month. True to his word, the talented right-back made the journey, fulfilling a lifelong dream of experiencing the land of his heritage.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival, Frimpong described the moment as surreal. “Amazing. To come to this welcoming atmosphere for the first time, amazing. This is my people. I’m so happy to see everybody; I’m so happy to be in Ghana,” he said.

Reflecting on his connection to Ghana, the defender shared how his upbringing has always been rooted in Ghanaian culture. “I’ve always been connected to my Ghanaian roots.

Both my parents are Ghanaians, I eat Ghanaian food, I speak the language, so I feel like I’ve always been connected, but obviously being here makes it extra special,” Frimpong explained.

For Frimpong, the visit was not just a holiday but a deeply personal milestone. “I have to come to Ghana; this is where I am from. My blood is Ghanaian blood, so for sure I had to come here one day, and this is the right time to come,” he added.

Frimpong has been a standout player for Bayer Leverkusen, helping the team secure their first-ever Bundesliga title last season with an impressive 16-goal contribution.

His success on the pitch has made him a star in Europe, but his visit to Ghana underscores his pride in his heritage and connection to his family’s origins.
