Kudus Welcomes England Test at the World Cup
Ghanaian midfield star, Mohammed Kudus says the Black Stars are unfazed by the prospect of facing England at next year’s FIFA World Cup, insisting the team’s qualification alone signals their growing ambition on the global stage.
Speaking during Tottenham Hotspur’s pre-match press conference ahead of their UEFA Champions League clash with Slavia Prague on Tuesday, Kudus described Ghana’s World Cup return as a major achievement that reflects the team’s rise.
“To qualify for the World Cup alone is a big statement from us and it shows what we can do,” Kudus said.
“There’s still a bit of time so the focus is here for now, but it’s good to have England in the group.”
Ghana’s draw against England has already sparked excitement among fans, setting the stage for one of the tournament’s most anticipated group fixtures.
The Black Stars have built a reputation for troubling major football nations on the world stage including beating Czech Republic in 2006, USA in 2010, and upsetting Germany in a 2-2 draw in 2014, and Kudus believes the team’s youthful confidence and improving structure give them every reason to be optimistic.
The 24-year-old midfielder, who has enjoyed a good season with Spurs, emphasized that the World Cup remains a long-term target, with club responsibilities taking the immediate spotlight. Still, he hinted that Ghana’s players quietly welcome the opportunity to test themselves against one of football’s traditional heavyweights.
Ghana will return to the global tournament with a refreshed squad blending emerging talent and experience, and Kudus is expected to play a central role.
