Medeama SC reclaim top spot with hard-fought win in Kpando

Medeama Sporting Club climbed back to the summit of the Ghana Premier League after edging Heart of Lions 1-0 in a tense matchday 16 encounter at Kpando.

The Yellow and Mauves showed grit and maturity on the road, with Kingsley Braye’s 20th-minute strike proving decisive. Braye capitalised on a rare lapse in the Heart of Lions defence to slot home what turned out to be the only goal of the contest, sealing all three points for the Tarkwa-based side.

Despite sustained pressure from the hosts, Medeama remained disciplined at the back, absorbing attacks and managing the game expertly to protect their slim advantage until the final whistle.

The victory lifts Medeama to the top of the GPL table with 30 points, leapfrogging Aduana FC, who sit two points behind but are yet to play their matchday 16 fixture. The Fire Boys will travel to Wenchi on Sunday to face Young Apostles, a result that could once again reshape the title race.

Medeama’s position at the summit could yet strengthen further, with the club still holding an outstanding league fixture. That crucial encounter comes on December 31 against defending champions Bibiani GoldStars, a game that could prove decisive in the early stages of the title chase.

For now, Medeama have laid down a strong marker, reaffirming their championship credentials as the Ghana Premier League race continues to gather momentum.
