The National Sports Authority (NSA) has officially withdrawn its recognition of the Ghana Swimming Association (GSA) and its Executive Council. This decision removes the GSA’s authority to manage aquatic sports in the country.

The NSA stated this action follows the GSA’s repeated failure to meet basic governance standards. Specific issues included not presenting audited financial accounts, failing to follow its own constitution, and not providing satisfactory answers to the NSA’s inquiries.

As a result of this withdrawal, the GSA and its Executive Council are no longer permitted to oversee national competitions, select teams for international events, or conduct any official aquatic sports activities within or outside Ghana. Members of the Council are also barred from representing Ghana at any national or international aquatics functions.

The NSA clarified that this is not a ban on the sport of swimming itself. Activities by swimming clubs, along with training and competitions not directly run by the GSA, are encouraged to continue.

In a statement, the NSA said it remains committed to its goal of promoting and organizing aquatic sports. The Authority emphasized its focus on ensuring accountability, transparency, and good governance for the benefit of athletes and all Ghanaians.

The NSA has informed the world governing body for aquatic sports, World Aquatics (WA), of this decision. The Authority now holds the mandate to reset and rebuild the structures of aquatic sports in Ghana.
