The Director General of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has pledged full institutional support for the successful hosting of the 2026 IFBB West Africa Championship in Accra, following a high-level engagement with the leadership of the Ghana Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (GBFA).

The meeting, held as a courtesy call, saw the President of the GBFA, Abdul Haye Yartey, lead the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the championship to formally inform and invite the NSA boss to the prestigious regional event.
During the interaction, Mr. Ankrah commended the GBFA for its dedication to the growth and promotion of bodybuilding and fitness in Ghana and across the sub-region. He assured the delegation of the Authority’s unwavering support and confirmed his intention to attend the championship in person.
He further challenged the association’s leadership to leverage its expertise and experience to deliver a world-class competition that would not only meet international standards but also establish a lasting legacy for the sport in Ghana.
In response, Mr. Yartey expressed appreciation for the NSA’s backing and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to organizing a successful and memorable event. He also extended an open invitation to the public and stakeholders to actively participate and support the championship.

The 2026 IFBB West Africa Championship is scheduled to take place at the National Theatre of Ghana on April 24, 2026, at 5:00 PM. The event is expected to attract top bodybuilding and fitness athletes from across West Africa, further positioning Ghana as a key hub for sporting excellence in the region.
