The Oldies Stars of Ghana, in partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, will officially launched grannies football teams in Ghana on Saturday, 28th February 2026.

The event will take place at McDan Town Park in La, Accra, from 3pm to 5pm, under the theme “Promoting Age Inclusive in Football Across the African Continent.”

The launch will bring together important figures in Ghana football. They included Mama Beka Nstanwisi, Founder and President of Grannies International Football Tournament (GIFT); Madam Habiba Atta Forson, Founder of Women’s Football in Ghana and Fabulous Ladies FC; Madam Hillary Boateng, Chairperson of women’s league; and Betty Kroshi Mensah, National Coordinator in Charge of Recreation and Wellness.

Also present will be former football stars Rev Osei Koffi, who won the Africa Cup of Nations three times; Rev Kofi Pare, a two-time Africa Cup winner; Rev Ed Arcton, a pioneer of Christian sports in Ghana; and Mr Benjamin Anno, President of Oldies Stars of Ghana.

A Day of Celebration and Support

As part of the National Recreation and Wellness Programme, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation will present a cash prize to support the event.

The launch will see the Oldies Stars of Ghana take on the Association of Femme Foot Sante Togo. It will be a moment to recognise women who have given so much to football in Ghana.

Honouring the Pioneers of Women’s Football

The women who will take to the field are not just former players. They are the people who carried the dream of women’s football in Ghana at a time when there was little support, little recognition, and limited resources. They kept the game alive through hard times so that today’s players could have opportunities they never had.

Today (Saturday) is not about remembering them in speeches alone. It’s about seeing them active, playing the game they love, and showing that football is for everyone, at every age.

Recreation for All Stages of Life

The event carries an important message that, recreation is not only for the young. It is for every stage of life. Staying active, staying connected, and staying visible is powerful. This is especially true for the legends who paved the way for women’s football in Ghana.
