The head coach of Ghana, Otto Addo, has confirmed that Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare is now the Black Stars’ first-choice shot-stopper.

The announcement came after Asare’s impressive performances in back-to-back World Cup qualifying victories against Chad and Madagascar.

Speaking at the post-match press conference after Ghana’s 3-0 win over Madagascar at the Mimoun Al Arsi Stadium in Morocco, Addo praised Asare’s performances, highlighting his composure and shot-stopping abilities.

I think the next game is in June, and Benjamin Asare is already the number one. We made that decision for him. He trained very well. We have a good atmosphere where the keepers are pushing each other. Otto Addo said.

The 32-year-old recently earned his first call-up to the senior national team, made his debut against Chad, where he kept a clean sheet in Ghana’s dominant 5-0 victory.

He retained his starting spot for the crucial match against Madagascar and once again delivered a solid performance, keeping another clean sheet as Ghana cruised to a 3-0 win.

His selection ahead of experienced goalkeepers Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Jojo Wollacott, who have been part of the Black Stars setup for the past three years, signals a shift in Ghana’s goalkeeping hierarchy.
