Ouattara Backs Benjamin Asare as Hearts No.1, Admits Disappointment Over Technical Advisor Role

Former Hearts of Oak head coach Aboubakar Ouattara has thrown his support behind Benjamin Asare as the club’s undisputed first-choice goalkeeper, insisting the experienced shot-stopper should reclaim his place once fully fit, despite the impressive form of Solomon Agbasi.

Speaking to Top Sports on Hearts’ goalkeeping situation, Ouattara acknowledged Agbasi’s performances between the sticks but was clear about where the hierarchy stands.

“Solomon Agbasi is doing extremely well, but the fact is Benjamin Asare still remains the number one for Hearts of Oak, and he needs to take over when he is fully fit,” Ouattara said.

Agbasi has stepped up in Asare’s absence this season, delivering a string of assured displays that have earned him praise from fans and pundits alike.

However, Ouattara believes Asare’s experience, leadership and deep understanding of the club make him the natural first choice when available.

Beyond goalkeeping matters, the former Hearts coach also opened up on his own situation at the club following the end-of-season review of his role.

Ouattara revealed his disappointment after being reassigned from the head coach position to technical advisor following the appointment of Mas-Ud Didi Dramani as the new head coach.

His tenure as head coach was assessed at the close of last season, after which management opted to restructure the technical team. Ouattara was subsequently tasked with providing guidance and support in an advisory capacity.

“I felt disappointed after I was informed to perform the role of the technical advisor because I had a template to put to reality as the head coach,” Ouattara told Top Sports.
