PSG and Atl. Madrid take first leg advantages in UCL quarters

 

Paris Saint Germain and Atletico Madrid both took commanding steps towards the UEFA Champions League semi finals after they both secured vital wins in the first leg of their champions League quarter final ties.

 

At the Parc de Princess, Desire Doue led the party as le Parisian roared to a 2-0 victory over English Champions Liverpool. Doue’s deflected effort lopped over Marmadasvilli who could do little and gave PSG an early lead.

Kvaratskhelia completed the win in the second half, adding a crucial second after gliding past the Liverpool defense and the goalkeeper to slot into a seemingly empty net.

After the game, Kvaratskhelia was confident about the reigning champions’ intent to go and dominate again at Anfield.

The second leg is set for next week Tuesday in Liverpool as PSG seek to retain their European crown.

Elsewhere, Atletico Madrid delivered a statement win at the Camp Nou, beating FC Barcelona 2-0 away from home in the first leg.

 

Julian Alvarez scored a free kick of the highest quality before Alexander Sorloth added a second late on to secure the win.

 

The turning point of the game arrived late in the first half when Pau Cubarsi was sent off for the denial of a clear goal scoring opportunity after he clipped Giovanni Simeone from behind.

 

It was from the resulting free kick that Argentine forward, Alvarez fired to break the games deadlock.

 

After the game, Barcelona Manager, Hansi Flick had is reservations about the red to his defender who will now miss the second leg in Madrid.

 

“I’m not sure it was a red card to Pau Cubarsi”.

He also referenced a moment in the game where he felt his side should have had a penalty and a separate incident according to his warranted a second yellow card.

 

“There was a clear penalty and a second yellow card for Atléti. What’s the point of VAR if it’s there in the first place? I just can’t understand that”.
