PSV Eindhoven have been crowned Eredivisie champions for the 27th time in club history, securing their third straight league title after closest rivals Feyenoord failed to beat FC Volendam on Sunday.
The Eindhoven giants had already taken a giant step toward the trophy earlier in the weekend with a thrilling 4-3 victory over FC Utrecht. That result, combined with Feyenoord’s goalless draw away at Volendam, rendered PSV’s 17-point lead insurmountable with just five matches remaining in the 2025/26 campaign.
Even had Feyenoord won on Sunday, PSV’s advantage would have stood at 15 points. More decisively, Peter Bosz’s side boasted a vastly superior goal difference, at least +42 compared to Feyenoord’s +22 making any late comeback a mathematical impossible.
PSV’s title charge was defined by near-total supremacy from the opening weeks of the season. The club won an extraordinary 15 of their first 17 matches, establishing an 11-point lead by the halfway stage.
Between September 27th and January 17th, PSV were relentless. A 13-game winning streak during which the club set a new Eredivisie record for most consecutive away victories, with 14, stretched their lead to 16 points. Supporters began preparing for a championship celebration as early as midwinter.
While both Feyenoord and Ajax struggled for consistency, PSV capitalised ruthlessly. The defining moment arrived on February 1st, when Bosz’s men dismantled Feyenoord 3-0, landing a decisive blow in the title race. From that point, the championship appeared PSV’s to lose.
The path to glory was not entirely without interruption. Following elimination from the Dutch Cup semi-final in late February, NEC Nijmegen delivered a shocking 3-2 victory in Eindhoven on March 14th, postponing what would have been an immediate title celebration. A subsequent unexpected defeat to Telstar forced PSV to wait further.
On their third attempt to seal the crown, however, PSV struck gold. The title-clinching result arrived on April 5th making PSV the earliest champions by calendar date in Eredivisie history. The feat surpasses the club’s own record, previously set on April 8th, 1978.
This season’s triumph marks PSV’s third consecutive Eredivisie title, making them the first club to achieve three in a row since Ajax won three straight between 2019 and 2022 under Erik ten Hag.
Remarkably, this is not the first time PSV have enjoyed such sustained dominance. Between 1986 and 1989, under Jan Reker and Guus Hiddink, the club won four consecutive league titles, a run that came just one year after PSV’s European Cup triumph. Between 2005 and 2008, PSV repeated the feat with another four straight championships, guided by Sef Vergoossen, Ronald Koeman, and again Guus Hiddink.
