Real Mallorca holds star-studded Real Madrid to a draw

Real Madrid’s La Liga title defense got off to a stuttering start as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Mallorca at the Estadio Iberostar.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side, boasting a formidable attacking quartet of Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo Goes, Vinicius Junior, and Kylian Mbappé, dominated possession but struggled to break down a resolute Mallorca defense.

The visitors took the lead in the 13th minute when Rodrygo finished off a slick team move, but Vedat Muriqi leveled for the hosts just before the hour mark.

Real Madrid pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but Mallorca defended resolutely and even had a chance to snatch a victory late on.

To make matters worse for the champions, Ferland Mendy was sent off in stoppage time for a reckless challenge.

The draw will be a disappointment for Real Madrid, who will be looking to bounce back quickly when they host their next league match against Valladolid.

Mallorca, meanwhile, will be delighted with their performance and will be aiming to build on this result.
