Redemption Time for Kotoko as Nana Apinkra Rallies Squad Ahead of Hearts Clash
Asante Kotoko Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman, Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua, has thrown his full weight behind the playing body, urging them to put recent setbacks behind them and focus on Sunday’s Super Clash against rivals Accra Hearts of Oak.
In a strong message delivered ahead of the highly anticipated encounter, Nana Apinkra made it clear that excuses will no longer be tolerated, calling on the players to rise to the occasion and redeem themselves.
“We can’t afford further excuses. It’s redemption time, and let’s leave the past behind and focus on what is ahead. We must redeem ourselves on Sunday,” he stated.
His comments come just a day after the Porcupine Warriors parted ways with head coach Abdul Karim Zito after their exit from the MTN FA Cup, a decision that has added extra tension and intrigue to preparations for the country’s biggest football fixture.
Coach Prince Yaw Owusu will temporarily take charge of the technical team assisted by Mohammed Hamza Obeng and prepare the team for the super clash on Sunday.
Despite the timing of the change, the IMC Chairman has challenged the players and all stakeholders to block out distractions and deliver on the pitch.
Kotoko head into the clash with confidence drawn from their narrow 1-0 victory over Hearts of Oak in the first round of the Ghana Premier League.
Another win over their arch-rivals would not only complete a season double but also provide a major boost to their title ambitions.
