In February 2027, Ghana will host an inspiring cycling initiative, designed to transform lives far beyond the finish line. Led by Dr. Kimberlee Henry, EdD, CEO of REC Advisory Group, the inaugural Ride Away Program will bring together cyclists from across the globe and within Ghana for a shared purpose to expand access to education for students in rural communities.

The program seeks to address a challenge often overlooked, distance. For many students in rural Ghana, the journey to school is not a simple commute but a daily obstacle. Children rise early to complete household chores, then walk long distances, sometimes several kilometers, just to reach the classroom.

After a full day of learning, they must make the same journey back home, where more responsibilities await. The physical and mental toll can be overwhelming, often affecting attendance, performance, and long-term educational outcomes.

The Ride Away Program aims to change that narrative.

Through a series of recreational cycling events, the initiative will raise funds to support the Bicycle Education Empowerment Program (BEEP), an ambitious effort to provide 1,000 specially designed bicycles to students in rural areas.

These bicycles will serve as a critical lifeline, reducing travel time, easing physical strain, and ultimately making education more accessible and sustainable for young learners.

The event is expected to attract over 300 riders, from Accra and surrounding regions. Designed to be inclusive, the program offers multiple ride categories tailored to different skill levels, including routes of 35km, 45km, 90km, and up to 180km.

Whether a professional cyclist or a recreational rider, participants will have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a powerful cause.

In collaboration with the Ghana Cycling Federation, the event will prioritize safety, organization, and an engaging experience for both riders and spectators. The Federation’s involvement ensures carefully selected routes, logistical efficiency, and an atmosphere where communities can gather to support participants and celebrate the spirit of giving.

Beyond cycling, the initiative carries a deeper mission to promote education as a pathway to generational change. By removing barriers to school access, the program seeks to empower students not only to succeed academically but to reshape the future of their families and communities.

Importantly, the Ride Away Program is not driven by corporate profit. All proceeds will be directed toward providing bicycles for students. Supporters are encouraged to participate in various ways by registering for a ride, sponsoring another cyclist, making direct donations, or simply showing up to cheer on participants.

Those unable to attend are invited to contribute through goodwill and encouragement for both riders and beneficiaries.

Through every mile cycled, the initiative moves closer to a future where no child’s education is limited by the distance they must travel.
