Mohamed Salah has openly questioned his future at Liverpool, expressing frustration over recent benchings and suggesting the club has not kept “promises” made to him.
The Egyptian forward made the comments in an interview following Liverpool’s 3-3 draw against Leeds United, a match in which he started as a substitute for the third consecutive game.
“It’s Not Acceptable”
Speaking with frustration, Salah stated, “It’s NOT acceptable to me, to be honest. I don’t know why it happens to me.” He pushed back against a narrative he perceives is forming around his role in the team’s recent struggles.
“We throw Mo under the bus… because he’s the problem. I don’t think I’m the problem,”
The 33-year-old reminded critics of his contributions since arriving at Anfield in 2017. “I have done so much for this club. I don’t have to go everyday fighting for my position because I earned it. I’m not bigger than anyone,” he added, striking a balance between cementing his status and maintaining team harmony.

Broken Promises and an Uncertain Future
Salah’s discontent appears to stem from assurances given by the club that he feels have been broken.
“I got a lot of promises in the summer and so far I am on the bench for three games, so I can’t say they have kept the promises,” he revealed.
His comments will inevitably fuel speculation about his long-term future at Liverpool, a club where he has become an icon, winning every major trophy including the Premier League and Champions League.
A Potential “Goodbye” Before AFCON
Salah described a recent conversation with his mother, hinting that an upcoming home game could serve as a farewell before he departs for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) this month.
“I called my mother yesterday, i didn’t know I wasn’t going to start today, I knew that. I said come to the Brighton game, it doesn’t matter if I play or not, I’m going to enjoy it,” he said.

He then added a line that will resonate deeply with Liverpool supporters: “We’ll see what happens, in my mind I’m going to enjoy it anyway, because I don’t know what’s going to happen anyway. The game will be at Anfield, so that will be my goodbye before I go to AFCON.”
Context and Reaction
Salah’s interview marks a significant and public perception of tensions that have been brewing within the club. After a summer of squad overhaul, Liverpool’s start to the season has been inconsistent.
With the January transfer window approaching and Saudi Arabian clubs maintaining a reported strong interest, Salah’s future is now firmly in the spotlight. His potential departure would signal the end of an era at Anfield.
