Samartex FC Eliminates Victoria United to Advance in CAF Champions League
Samartex FC have advanced to the second round of the CAF Champions League qualification after defeating Cameroonian league champions at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The 2023-24 Ghana Premier League champions secured a 2-0 aggregate win over Victoria United of Cameroon to reach the next stage of the competition.
Isaac Afful’s early goal in the 8th minute of the second leg proved to be the decisive moment as Samartex held on for a 1-0 win. This victory, combined with their 1-0 win in the first leg in Cameroon, was enough to see them through to the second phase of the qualifiers.
Samartex will now face a stern test in the form of Raja Casablanca of Morocco in the next round of the CAF Champions League qualifiers. The tie is scheduled to take place in September.
Samartex will need to overcome this challenge to ensure that they end up in the group stages of the 2024-25 CAF Champions League to emulate the feat achieved by Medeama SC last season.
