Sarmatex Stun Kotoko in Kumasi to End Winless Run

FC Sarmatex 1996 produced a disciplined performance to defeat Asante Kotoko 2-1 in the Ghana Premier League, securing their first-ever victory over the Porcupine Warriors on their home turf.

The match, which began on Sunday and finished on Monday, initially ended goalless at halftime before torrential rainfall rendered the Baba Yara Stadium pitch unplayable. The second half was therefore postponed and completed the next day.

When action resumed, Sarmatex showed greater sharpness and intent, breaking the deadlock through Christian Boateng before Emmanuel Mamah doubled their advantage to put the visitors firmly in control.

Kotoko, who struggled to impose themselves for large spells, managed a late response through Albert Amoah, who pounced on a rebound after captain Samba Oneil had missed a penalty, but it proved to be only a consolation as Sarmatex held on for a vital win.

The result ends Sarmatex’s six-game winless run, marking their first victory since January and potentially reigniting their push for a top four finish.

For Kotoko, the defeat deepens their inconsistent run, with just one win in their last five matches, alongside two draws and two losses.

The Porcupine Warriors now sit fourth in the league, eight points behind leaders Bibiani GoldStars, dealing a significant setback to their title ambitions.
