The Vice Chairman of the Black Stars management committee, Stephen Appiah, has expressed confidence in the team’s commitment to making Ghanaians proud as they prepare for their 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana’s senior national team has faced heavy criticism following a disappointing campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where they failed to secure a win and finished at the bottom of their group. With only two victories recorded in 2024, the Black Stars are set to play their first matches of 2025 against Chad and Madagascar in the qualifiers.
Speaking in an interview ahead of the crucial games, Appiah, who played a pivotal role in Ghana’s qualification for the 2006 and 2010 World Cups expressed optimism about the team’s preparedness.
I was proud to see our president [John Mahama] visit the players yesterday. He shared words of encouragement and reminded them that it’s not about NDC or NPP, but about playing their hearts out for the nation. Appiah told Asempa FM.
From everything President Mahama told the players, I can see they are motivated and ready to make Ghanaians proud in the matches against Chad and Madagascar.
Appiah also urged supporters to rally behind the team, emphasizing the importance of fan support.
We need the fans to show up in their numbers to support the team. Let’s come together and back the Black Stars, and I believe they will deliver victory.
The Black Stars will host Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, with kick-off set for 19:00 GMT, before traveling to face Madagascar on Monday at the Al Hoceima Grand Stadium in Morocco. The team is set to wrap up their final training session today at the Accra Sports Stadium.
