The Ghanaian contingent to the African Youth Games has initiated a phased travel plan to Luanda, Angola, following final logistical confirmations from the Ministry of Sport & Recreation. The first group of athletes and officials departed from Kotoka International Airport in the early hours of Wednesday, 10th December 2025.

This departure schedule ensures athletes arrive with optimal preparation time for their events. The contingent consisting of 33 athletes and officials across seven sports, took off at 7:00 AM on a flight bound for Angola.

Team members were required to assemble at the airport by 4:30 AM, with passports, all necessary travel documentation, and their sports equipment.

The Chef de Mission (CDM) for the Ghana Olympic Committee confirmed that subsequent departure batches will be organized and communicated based on competition timelines. All remaining team members have been advised to remain on standby for further updates, with a detailed list for the second group expected later today.

Table Tennis Team Sees Late Change, Led by Veteran Coach

The Table Tennis squad has undergone a last-minute change. Micheal Agyapong Mensah, a bronze medalist at the 2025 African Schools Games in Algeria and recipient of the SWAG Table Tennis Discovery of the Year award, was unfortunately sidelined due to illness a day before departure.

Stepping in is Micheal Yeboah, a promising young talent with formidable backhand and forehand skills. As a cadet competitor, Yeboah carries significant expectations and is poised to leverage his experience to make an impact at the Games. He will be joined by the Emerald Bortey, a female sensation in the sport.

The duo will be under the guidance of experienced coach Eva Ampah, who will lead Ghana’s charge for table tennis.

Swim Team Ready to Make Waves

Ghana’s aquatic ambitions will be carried by a dedicated swim team scheduled for departure in the coming batches. The squad features a blend of promising talent:

· Kelvin Abdallah

· Mercedes Abdallah

· Oduma Agyei

· Tamba Akin Boamah

The team will benefit from the technical expertise of Coach Jonathan Amoako-Atta and the managerial leadership of Team Leader Charles Mensah.

The Chef de Mission and the entire Ghana Olympic Committee extended gratitude to all athletes, officials, and families for their patience and understanding during the final travel coordination phase. The focus now shifts fully to competition, with the nation rallying behind its youthful representatives as they prepare to compete with honour on the continental stage.
