Ghana’s U20 women’s team, the Black Princesses, are celebrating after securing a crucial victory in South Africa to advance to the final stage of the World Cup qualifiers.

Head coach Charles Sampson expressed his joy and relief after the game.

His team traveled to South Africa needing a win after they let go of a two-goal lead in the first leg, which ended in a 2-2 draw in Accra.

In the second leg at the Mbombela Stadium, the Black Princesses faced a large and vocal home crowd. Despite the pressure, they remained focused. A goal from Priscilla Mensah in the second half was enough to silence the South African fans and secure the win for Ghana.

Speaking after the game, an emotional Coach Sampson shared his happiness. “The mood is unbelievable,” he said. “You could see a lot of emotions, even myself. Just because the sort of challenges we had in this particular camp was huge. And to come out of that and come and win here and qualify for the next round… we are so, so happy.”

The victory moves the Black Princesses one step closer to another World Cup appearance. The team has a strong history in the competition, having qualified for every U-20 Women’s World Cup since 2010. They will now face Uganda in the next round for a chance to make it eight appearances in a row.
