Tottenham Hotspur have sacked head coach Thomas Frank after less than eight months in charge.

The decision was confirmed by the club on Wednesday, a day after Spurs fans booed Frank and chanted for his dismissal during the 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United.

Club officials are understood to have decided Frank’s position had become untenable.

Tottenham are 16th in the Premier League table, five points above the relegation zone. They have won only two of their last 17 league matches.

In a statement, the club said: “The club has taken the decision to make a change in the men’s head coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today.

“Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together.

“However, results and performances have led the board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.

“Throughout his time at the club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment, giving everything in his efforts to move the club forward. We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future.”

Frank joined Tottenham in June after leaving Brentford. He replaced Ange Postecoglou, who had been sacked despite winning the Europa League.

But the 52-year-old struggled to win over Spurs supporters during his short time at the club. His spell included a number of difficult moments, such as when he was pictured drinking from a coffee cup bearing the badge of north London rivals Arsenal.

Frank leaves with 13 wins from his 38 games in charge. The defeat to Newcastle meant his Premier League win percentage dropped to 26.9 per cent, the lowest of any Spurs manager in the Premier League era.

His departure means Tottenham are now looking for their sixth permanent manager in seven years, since Mauricio Pochettino left in 2019.

Whoever takes over will inherit a side already out of both domestic cup competitions. However, Spurs are still in the Champions League after Frank guided them to a fourth-place finish in the league phase.

Tottenham’s next match is at home against Arsenal on Sunday 22 February, followed by a trip to Fulham.
