At a packed Bukom Boxing Arena for the Bishop Boxing Promotion’s “Best of Bukom 2” event, rising star Africanus Neequaye claimed the National Lightweight Championship with a commanding performance, forcing Daniel Quaye to retire after the seventh round.

The 20-year-old prospect, Neequaye, entered the fight with a perfect record and lived up to his promise. From round one, he controlled the pace, landing sharp combinations to both the head and body of the challenger, Daniel Quaye.

Quaye, known for his own power, tried to respond but struggled to find a consistent rhythm against Neequaye’s speed and technical abilities. The bout built towards a climax in the sixth round, where Neequaye thrilled the supportive crowd. He unleashed a series of clean, hurtful punches that had Quaye in repeated trouble.

When the bell sounded to begin the seventh round, Quaye remained in his corner unable to continue. Referee David Mills promptly waved an end to the contest, declaring Neequaye the winner by technical knockout.

With this victory, Africanus Neequaye remains undefeated, improving his record to 11-0 with 8 knockouts, and begins his reign as the new National Lightweight champion. Daniel Quaye’s record moves to 9-3-1.
