The Black Queens of Ghana are pushing forward with their participation in the ongoing Pink Ladies Cup in the United Arab Emirates, despite rising tensions in the surrounding region.
According to team Media Officer Matilda Dimedo, the squad remains focused on the tournament while closely monitoring the security situation.
The unrest briefly affected the team’s schedule following their strong 4-0 victory over Hong Kong in the opening match on Saturday. Training was temporarily disrupted due to security concerns that limited access to the outdoor training pitch.

However, the players have stayed active by using indoor gym facilities to maintain their fitness levels.
Dimedo confirmed that the team is in constant communication with tournament organizers and Ghana’s Consulate in the UAE. On Monday morning, officials from Ghana’s diplomatic mission visited the Black Queens to provide reassurance and express the government’s commitment to their safety.
According to Dimedo, the situation in the host city has improved since Sunday, when smoke was visible across the skyline. Local activities are gradually returning to normal, which has helped ease concerns within the Ghanaian camp.
The team is optimistic about returning to full training later on Monday as they prepare for their next match against Russia.

Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa also issued a statement regarding the team’s wellbeing. “Ghana’s celebrated Black Queens are safe and doing well. I have spoken with the leadership of the team. Our diplomatic mission in the UAE has been in close contact with the Black Queens, extending much needed consular support. In this turbulent moment, the safety and welfare of all Ghanaians, particularly those currently in the Middle East, remains our utmost priority,” he said.
The team’s departure timeline remains uncertain and will depend on the status of regional airspace.
Dimedo explained that the Black Queens have two possible options. If conditions improve before their final group game against Tanzania, they may leave early. Otherwise, they will complete the tournament and return home safely as originally planned.
The Pink Ladies Cup serves as an important warm-up for the Black Queens ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Following this friendly competition, the team is scheduled to face Ivory Coast in another preparation match before WAFCON begins later this month.
For now, the Black Queens remain determined to continue their campaign while staying alert to any developments in the region. With diplomatic support in place and conditions appearing to stabilize, the team is focused on their football and their safety.
