“We need to be physically and psychologically ready” – Didi Dramani ahead of Gold Stars clash

Accra Hearts of Oak head coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani has issued a strong mental rallying call to his side ahead of their crucial trip to Bibiani to face Gold Stars at Dun’s Park on Sunday.

Speaking to the club’s media team in his pre-match briefing, the experienced tactician emphasized the importance of mental sharpness as the Phobians prepare for what promises to be a high-stakes encounter.

“We need to be physically very ready and then psychologically very much oriented. That will influence our tactical discipline and then our resilience.”

Dramani believes the psychological aspect of the game will be key in navigating what is traditionally a difficult fixture, especially against a Gold Stars side known for their dominance on home soil.

On the tactical front, the Hearts boss revealed the specific areas his team has been fine-tuning in preparation for the clash.

“We are more focused in how we close spaces in central positions and also play the ball from central positions to our frontrunners.”

The Phobians have also been handed a timely boost with the return of striker Hamza Issah and winger, Enoch Asubonteng, both of whom missed last weekend’s clash against Berekum Chelsea.

Dramani expressed relief at having the duo back in contention:

“We’re lucky that Hamza is coming back and we’re also lucky that Enoch is coming back even though not fully fit.”

Despite Gold Stars’ impressive home form, history offers Hearts encouragement. The Bibiani-based club is yet to record a home victory against the Phobians in the Premier League since gaining top-flight status five years ago. Their home record against Hearts stands at three draws and one defeat.

With Gold Stars sitting second on 42 points and Hearts close behind in third on 40, only two points separate the sides heading into Sunday’s showdown. The narrow gap sets the stage for a fiercely contested battle where fine margins, discipline, and mental strength could ultimately decide the outcome.

All signs point to a tense and tactical duel at Dun’s Park on Sunday.
