West Ham End Six-Game Winless Run With Victory Over Newcastle
West Ham United ended their six-game winless run in the Premier League with a vital 3–1 victory over Newcastle United at the London Stadium, their first league win since August.
Jacob Murphy gave Newcastle an early lead, but the Hammers mounted an impressive comeback. Lucas Paquetá’s composed finish levelled the score before a Sven Botman own goal just before half time turned the game in West Ham’s favour.
Tomáš Souček added a third deep into stoppage time to seal all three points and lift the home crowd.
The result, which is West Ham’s first win under Nuno Nuno Espírito Santo since his appointment in late September is also their first home win since beating Leicester City in February.
Even though some amount of pressure on the home side has reduced after the win, they still remain 18th in the Premier League table with seven points, three behind 17th placed Burnley.
While they still sit in the relegation zone, the win injects renewed belief and momentum into a team that has struggled for form in recent weeks.
For Nuno and his players, this performance could mark the beginning of a much needed turnaround as they aim to climb out of danger in the coming fixtures.
