Winner of Taylor-Serrano 2 must face me – Cameron

England’s former world champion Chantelle Cameron says she is gearing up to fight the winner of next month’s bout between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano.

Ireland’s Taylor takes on Puerto Rican Serrano on 15 November in a rematch of their 2022 lightweight classic, this time at light-welterweight for the undisputed title.

Cameron, 33, is the former owner of those belts and will defend her status as WBC interim champion on Saturday against Patricia Berghult.

“Whoever wins out of Serrano and Taylor, I will be in a position where they’ll need to fight me because I’m mandatory [challenger to the WBC title],” Cameron told BBC Radio Northampton.

Berghult, 30, is a former world champion at light-middleweight and will be Cameron’s second fight since suffering the first loss of her career to Taylor almost a year ago.

That win by Taylor avenged the only defeat of her career and speaking to BBC Sport on Tuesday she did not rule out a trilogy bout with Cameron, who won the first contest in May 2023.

Cameron has made sweeping changes since last year’s points defeat, switching coaches and joining a new promotional team, Frank Warren’s Queensberry.

Her debut with Warren was a majority points win over Elhem Mekhaled last July despite Cameron saying she had a “sinus and chest infection” the week of the fight.
