Ghana’s preparations for the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal, have taken a huge step forward with the departure of two young wrestlers and their coach for a high-intensity training camp in Guinea Bissau.

Prince Nimo Owusu and Muphtawu Mohammad, accompanied by their coach, Twumasi Addo, left Accra earlier today en route to Bissau, the capital of Guinea Bissau.

The six-day training camp, scheduled to run from April 6 to April 12, 2026, forms a central component of Ghana’s strategic preparations for the global youth sporting event.

The camp is made possible through the generous sponsorship of United World Wrestling (UWW) and Olympic Solidarity, under the banner of the “Road to Dakar” project.

This initiative is specifically designed to intensively prepare promising young athletes for the Youth Olympic Games, offering them invaluable international exposure and world-class training methodologies.

Upon their arrival, the Ghanaian contingent will join peers from other countries in a rigorous programme aimed at sharpening technical skills, building tactical awareness, and fostering the mental resilience required for elite competition.

For Owusu and Mohammad, the camp represents a crucial opportunity to test themselves against international opposition and gain experience on a larger stage.

The Youth Olympic Games, set to take place in Dakar, Senegal, serves as a premier platform for emerging sporting talent from around the world.

Ghanaian officials have expressed optimism about the country’s potential to make a notable impression at the Games, and the Guinea Bissau training camp is viewed as a pivotal step in that journey.

The Ghana Wrestling Federation has confirmed that the team will return home on April 13, 2026, to continue their final phase of preparation before the Youth Olympic Games in Senegal.
