Africa Cycling Network Satellite (ACNS), in partnership with the Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF), will donate four bicycles to the Ghana Prisons Service on Friday, 7 August 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Ghana Prisons Service Headquarters.
The donation forms part of the ongoing collaboration between ACNS and the Ghana Cycling Federation to promote cycling across Ghana and support the establishment of cycling teams within the country’s security services.
The presentation follows the approval in principle for the establishment of a Ghana Prisons Service Cycling Team, granted on behalf of the Director-General of Prisons through the office of the Director-General by Benedict Bob-Dery, Director of Prisons in charge of Operations, Finance and Management (FMGT).
The Ghana Prisons Service described the initiative as commendable and aligned with its broader staff wellness and sports development objectives.
Implementation of the cycling team will be coordinated through the Director of Prisons responsible for Welfare, who oversees the Service’s Sports Unit.
The newly established Ghana Prisons Service Cycling Team is expected to make its competitive debut at the Duku Festival Cycling Race on Sunday, 9 August 2026, at Osu.
The Ghana Police Service has also confirmed its participation, setting the stage for an exciting competition between the two security services.
Meanwhile, discussions are ongoing to establish a Ghana Army Cycling Team through engagements with Major General (Rtd) Lord Ativor, Head of Security Coordinator. If successful, the initiative will further expand the participation of Ghana’s security services in cycling and strengthen the sport as a platform for fitness, discipline, unity, and national representation.
Speaking ahead of the presentation, the Secretary General of the Ghana Cycling Federation, Shaaban Mohammed, said the partnership between ACNS and the Federation reflects a shared commitment to developing cycling at all levels and creating sustainable opportunities for security institutions to actively participate in the sport.
The bicycle donation represents another important achievement in the joint efforts of Africa Cycling Network Satellite and the Ghana Cycling Federation to grow cycling nationwide and build a strong cycling culture across Ghana’s security services.
