Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club will host the Accra City Invitational Tournament, a three-day pre-season competition scheduled to run from Friday, August 21 to Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the club’s own Hearts Africa Academy Complex in Pobiman.
The tournament, organised under the banner of the Accra City Invitational Cup and billed as part of the build-up to the 2026/2027 season, brings together host club Hearts of Oak with Vision Football Club, Swedru All Blacks United FC and Port City FC.
Matches will be played daily at 9:00am and 3:00pm, with gate admission set at GH¢10.00.
The tournament arrives just over a week after Hearts of Oak announced their withdrawal from the 2026 Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) Top Four Tournament. In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 11, the club cited a clash between the competition’s scheduled dates and programmes it had already committed to, along with concerns that the tournament’s proximity to the start of the new Ghana Premier League season could disrupt its preparations.
Hearts of Oak said it had engaged GHALCA beforehand to request a change of dates, but the association opted to retain the original schedule.
GHALCA subsequently confirmed FC Samartex 1996 as the club’s replacement in the competition, which features Medeama SC, Bibiani Gold Stars and Dreams FC as the remaining sides drawn from the top four finishers of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
The club maintained that the decision would not affect its relationship with GHALCA, stressing its continued commitment to cordial collaboration with the association and the wider Ghanaian football community.
Hosting the Accra City Invitational Tournament gives Hearts of Oak a competitive pre-season platform on home turf, at the club’s own Pobiman academy complex. The three-day format, played twice daily across the weekend, offers the Phobians and their invited guests a further opportunity to test squad depth, fitness and tactical combinations ahead of the 2026/2027 Ghana Premier League campaign.
