Cameroon Secure First WAFCON Title After Malawi Win
Cameroon finally ended their long wait for a Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title after sweeping aside debutants Malawi 3-0 in the 2026 final.
The Indomitable Lionesses settled the contest in a devastating first-half spell, with Marie Ngah scoring twice and Naomi Ndjoah Eto adding another as Cameroon raced into a three-goal lead.
Ngah opened the scoring before Eto doubled the advantage, with the forward completing her brace before the break to take her tournament tally to five goals.
Malawi, who were appearing in their first-ever WAFCON final, struggled to respond after Cameroon’s explosive start. The She-Flames had already made history by reaching the final, but were unable to add the ultimate prize.
Cameroon Finally Break Final Hoodoo
The victory delivered Cameroon’s first WAFCON crown after three previous final defeats and made them only the fourth country to win the competition, following Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and South Africa.
It was also the first new champion since South Africa’s breakthrough triumph in 2022. Cameroon’s victory was the biggest winning margin in a WAFCON final since Equatorial Guinea’s 4-0 victory over South Africa in 2012.
Goalkeeper Michaely Bihina also played a key role in Cameroon’s historic campaign. She was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament after keeping four clean sheets in five appearances and conceding just once.
Cameroon finished the competition having allowed only two goals across six matches, underlining the defensive strength behind their historic triumph.
For Malawi, the final defeat cannot erase a landmark campaign that saw the WAFCON debutants reach the continental showpiece for the first time. For Cameroon, however, Morocco provided the stage where years of disappointment finally gave way to history.
