Asante Kotoko SC have completed the signing of 22-year-old Moroccan goalkeeper Abdelwadie Mourad, strengthening head coach Eric Tinkler’s options between the posts ahead of the new season.
Mourad joins a goalkeeping department that already features Aziz Dari, Danlad Ibrahim, and youth team graduate Clever Obeng, adding further depth and competition for places in Kotoko’s shot-stopping ranks.
The young goalkeeper began his professional career at Moroccan top-flight club Chabab Mohammedia, progressing through the club’s youth system before earning promotion to the senior team.
He went on to make 14 appearances for the first team, establishing himself as a capable option in Morocco’s Botola Pro League.
Mourad subsequently moved to Albanian side Basania FC, where he spent half a season gaining further senior experience before completing his move to Kumasi.
With this signing, Mourad becomes the first Moroccan player in Asante Kotoko’s history, adding a new nationality to the ranks of the two-time African champions
Speaking on his footballing influences, Mourad revealed that, like many young goalkeepers coming through the ranks in Morocco, he counts Al Hilal and former Sevilla shot-stopper Yassine Bounou among his idols.
