Young Apostles Captain Sets Lofty Targets for New GPL Season
Young Apostles captain Ramzy Abubakar says the club are determined to avoid another relegation battle as they prepare for their third successive Ghana Premier League campaign.
The Wenchi-based side finished 13th last season after securing their top-flight status on the final day, an experience Abubakar believes has taught the team valuable lessons.
“We’ve learnt a lot from last season, and we’re ready to step up this season,” he said.
According to the captain, Young Apostles will approach the new campaign with greater determination and refuse to leave their fate until the final stages of the season.
“We’re beginning this season with power. We won’t wait for the final games of the season to determine our fate. We won’t allow it that way.”
The club’s ambitions have also shifted beyond survival, with Abubakar targeting a place among the league’s top four while setting a top-seven finish as the minimum objective.
“We hope to finish in the top four or, worst, top seven and reach either the quarter-finals or semi-final of the MTN FA Cup.”
Young Apostles earned promotion to the Premier League in 2024 and have since established themselves in Ghana’s top flight. They will be hoping their experience from the past two seasons helps them make significant progress in the upcoming campaign.
They open the 2026/27 season away to Vision FC, with the Ghana Premier League scheduled to begin from September 4 to 7.
