GFA Confirms New Deal For Carlos Queiroz to Continue as Black Stars Coach
Carlos Queiroz will continue as head coach of the Black Stars after the Ghana Football Association (GFA) reached an agreement with the Portuguese coach on a new mandate.
The development ends uncertainty over Queiroz’s future after his initial short-term contract expired at the end of July.
Queiroz was originally appointed on a short-term basis to lead Ghana to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, where the Black Stars made their first knockout-stage appearance since 2010.
Although reports had suggested that the coach was unconvinced by the proposed terms and was preparing to leave, negotiations between the two sides have now produced an agreement.
The GFA said authorities had been impressed by Queiroz’s impact and personality during his initial spell and decided to retain his services.
World Cup Progress
Under Queiroz, Ghana finished third in Group L with four points and advanced to the Round of 32 as one of the best third-placed teams.
The Black Stars began the tournament with a 1-0 win over Panama before drawing 0-0 with England and losing 2-1 to Croatia in their final group fixture.
Their World Cup campaign ended with a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32, but the progress from the group represented Ghana’s first advancement to the knockout stage since the 2010 World Cup.
GFA Trusts Queiroz for Next Phase
Confirming the agreement, the GFA said Queiroz’s “extensive international experience, technical expertise and knowledge of the Black Stars” make him well placed to lead the team forward.
The association added that his new mandate will commence with the upcoming international window, with further details of his programme to be announced later.
The GFA and Queiroz will now shift their focus towards building what the association described as “a successful new phase for Ghana on the international stage.”
