Ampem Darkoa, Edo Queens Renew Rivalry in WAFU B Final
Ampem Darkoa Ladies will face Edo Queens of Nigeria in the final of the 2026 WAFU Zone B Women’s Champions League qualifiers on Saturday, September 5, with a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League at stake.
The Ghanaian champions reached the final after defeating FC Dynamique of Benin 4-1 in their semi-final at the August 4 Stadium in Ouagadougou on Wednesday.
Milot Pokuaa opened the scoring in the 16th minute before Rebecca Asemani doubled the advantage 12 minutes later. Gloria Adomako added a third in the 38th minute as Ampem Darkoa took a commanding lead into the break.
Pokuaa completed her brace in the 66th minute, while FC Dynamique scored a consolation goal late in the game.
Edo Queens secured their place in the final after defeating hosts USFA 5-1 in the other semi-final, setting up a rematch with Ampem Darkoa.
The Nigerian side, however, will be seeking revenge after losing 2-1 to Ampem Darkoa in the group stage. That result remains Edo Queens’ only defeat in the competition.
Ampem Darkoa have been perfect in Burkina Faso, winning all four matches, scoring 11 goals and conceding just two.
Victory on Saturday would secure Ampem Darkoa’s second appearance at the CAF Women’s Champions League after their debut in 2023.
Ghanaian clubs have previously qualified through the WAFU B route, with Hasaacas Ladies achieving the feat in 2021 before Ampem Darkoa followed in 2023.
The final therefore presents Ampem Darkoa with the opportunity to make history by qualifying for the continental competition for a second time, while Edo Queens will be determined to overturn their earlier defeat and claim the region’s lone qualification ticket.
