The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced strict disciplinary measures against Moroccan club AS FAR following serious crowd incidents during their CAF Champions League match against Egypt’s Al Ahly in Rabat.

The match was marred by unacceptable behavior from sections of the home support. The situation escalated after a disallowed goal, leading fans to throw water bottles and various objects onto the pitch. Reports confirm that a metal object was among the items thrown, which struck Al Ahly player “Trezeguet” on the head.

The disorder continued when AS FAR players were seen attempting to retrieve and hide the thrown objects from match officials, leading to a confrontation that temporarily halted the game.

In line with its zero-tolerance policy on stadium safety and misconduct, CAF has imposed several penalties on AS FAR.

The club has been fined a total of $100,000 for the following offenses:

$20,000 for the use of laser pointers by supporters.

·$15,000 for throwing water bottles onto the field.

·$15,000 for ball boys deliberately hiding match balls.

$50,000 for throwing a sharp object onto the pitch.

The club has 60 days to pay the fine.

Furthermore, CAF has ordered that AS FAR’s next two CAF Champions League home matches be played behind closed doors, without any spectators. The affected matches are:

·AS FAR vs JS Kabylie (Algeria)

·AS FAR vs Young Africans (Tanzania)

CAF reiterated its firm commitment to protecting players, officials, and the integrity of the game. These sanctions serve as a strong reminder to all clubs of their duty to ensure safety and order in their stadiums. The governing body stated it will continue to enforce its rules without exception to prevent such incidents in the future.
