The Ghana Badminton Association (GBA) presents its official review of the 2025 season, a truly historic year that has established Ghana as a global badminton leader. This report tells a story of exceptional triumph, from winning a World Championship and dominating Africa to building a strong foundation for lasting success. Ghana has not only won; it has created a new model for excellence in sport.
Record-Breaking Achievements: Global and Continental Success
The year 2025 was the highest point in Ghanaian badminton, marked by winning on the world stage and total command in Africa.
Building for the Future: Coach Development
Ghana’s ongoing success is driven by a strong system for training coaches. This focus on developing expertise ensures that our athletes are guided by highly skilled coaches at every level.
A key moment was the graduation in March 2025 of 48 new coaches from intensive certification courses. This greatly expands the number of professional coaches across the country, spreading knowledge and raising standards everywhere from schools to the national team.

Total Continental Dominance
Ghana hosted the Badminton Grand Slam 2025,a major 21-day event at the Borteyman Sports Complex featuring five tournaments with 78 participating nations.
Our athletes made the most of playing at home, delivering an unforgettable performance. Ghana finished as the top nation, winning a record 29 medals (12 gold, 7 silver, 10 bronze) across youth and senior events. This included winning five out of six gold medals at the All-African U-15 Championships.
African School Games: Our next generation of players proved the strength of our grassroots programs, winning 6 of Ghana’s 14 total medals at the first African School Games.
African Youth Games 2025: In Luanda, Angola, our young badminton stars became the standout performers for Team Ghana. They won Ghana’s only two gold medals and secured a total of seven medals (2 gold, 1 silver, 4 bronze)—the highest medal count of any sport for Ghana. This achievement clearly establishes badminton as a top medal-producing sport for the nation’s future.

Pathway to the Olympics and World Success
Ghana successfully secured early qualification spots for three events(Mixed Doubles, Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles) at the Dakar 2026 Olympic Games. Our athletes also won titles at major international events, proving they can compete at the highest level year-round.
The Foundation of Success: Our Strategic Plan
The victories on court are a direct result of smart investments and planning off the court.
Developing Champions Nationwide
Badminton in Schools: Our grassroots program introduced badminton to over 110,000 children nationwide. A new National Schools League will launch in 2026.
100 Athlete Scholarships: In partnership with the Badminton World Federation and the World Academy of Sport, we awarded 100 scholarships to young athletes. This program helps them balance sport and education, preparing them for success in life and in badminton.

Official Training: We trained and certified 30 new international-level technical officials to ensure our events meet global standards.
Recognition and Partnerships
Ghana Badminton’s”2032 Mission” was celebrated at the 50th SWAG Awards, where we won five major awards. The GBA was named a Top 5 Federation, President Evans Yeboah was honored as Sports Administrator of the Year, and our athletes and coaches also received top awards. This recognition confirms badminton’s place as a leading sport in Ghana.
