Asante Kotoko has officially welcomed back striker Albert Amoah. The player returns on a loan deal from Libyan club Al Ahly Benghazi, which will last until the end of the current 2025/26 season. The agreement was completed on January 15, 2026.
This marks a quick change in Amoah’s career path, coming only a few months after he left Kotoko permanently. He moved to Al Ahly Benghazi in October 2025 for a reported transfer fee between $200,000 and $290,000. However, Kotoko had faced difficulties in receiving the full payment for that transfer, which led the club to issue formal warnings to the Libyan side late last year.
Before his departure, Albert Amoah was Asante Kotoko’s most dangerous and reliable attacker. His move away created a major gap in the team’s offense, and the Porcupine Warriors have struggled to find consistency in scoring goals since he left.
The 24-year-old striker’s time in Libya did not go as planned. He found it difficult to earn a regular place in the team at Al Ahly Benghazi. Amoah was not included in the match-day squad for any of the club’s first five games of their current campaign. This lack of playing time made a return to his former club possible.
His comeback is expected to solve a critical problem for Kotoko. Head coach Abdul Karim Zito has spoken openly about the team’s need for a strong forward who can lead the attack. He admitted the squad has had trouble converting their chances into goals, which is essential for climbing the league table and competing for trophies this season.
The club’s Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, also addressed the transfer. He disagreed with people calling Amoah’s return “shocking.” Duku explained that such situations are common in football, where a club signs a player and later decides to send him out on loan.
He revealed that Kotoko has maintained regular contact with both Amoah and Al Ahly Benghazi. “When they decided to release him on loan, Kotoko was the first option they considered, and we gladly accepted, taking into account Albert’s legacy at the club,” Duku stated. He strongly believes the striker’s return will have a positive effect, especially by making Kotoko’s attack much stronger.
Amoah originally left Kotoko after the team’s exit from the CAF Confederation Cup. Now, his return to the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi is seen as a major boost for team morale and a key to improving the team’s performance in the final part of the field. Fans are hopeful that his presence will help Kotoko rediscover their scoring form and push for a strong finish in the Ghana Premier League.
