The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the appointment of five key professionals to the Black Stars’ technical team. This move is part of a strategic effort to build a stronger and more competitive squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
The decision was made by the GFA after consultation with major stakeholders. The goal is to create a well-balanced and expert technical structure to support the team’s World Cup preparations.
Leading the new appointments is French coach Alain Ravera, who joins as Assistant Coach. Ravera brings valuable international experience, having previously worked as an assistant coach with the Guinea national team and French club AS Monaco.

He will be joined by Kim Lars Björkegren, the current head coach of the Black Queens, Ghana’s women’s national team. Björkegren recently led the women’s team to a bronze medal at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and secured their qualification for the 2026 WAFCON. He will continue his role with the Black Queens while contributing to the Black Stars’ setup.

To enhance the team’s analysis and scouting, the GFA has brought in Spanish coach José Daniel Martínez Alfonso. Martínez Alfonso currently serves as an assistant coach and video analyst for Major League Soccer side Atlanta FC. He will be focused on match preparation, opponent analysis, and performance review.

The medical team receives a familiar face with the return of Carlos Lozano Romero as Team Physiotherapist. Lozano previously worked with the Black Stars during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. His return is expected to provide valuable continuity and a sense of familiarity within the team’s medical department.

Completing the list of new appointments is Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi, a British-born Ghanaian performance specialist. He has been named the team’s Performance Coach. In this role, he will be responsible for the players’ physical conditioning, ensuring they are at their best, and managing overall performance throughout the World Cup campaign.
The GFA clarified that these appointments are specifically for the 2026 FIFA World Cup project. This follows the Association’s long-standing practice of boosting the technical team whenever Ghana qualifies for a major tournament.
The newly appointed staff will integrate with the existing backroom team, which is led by Head Coach Otto Addo. Their combined efforts will be crucial as the Black Stars intensify their training and preparation for the global tournament.
