Simba SC’s title hopes have encountered a major obstacle. The club’s star attackers, Jonathan Sowah and Alhasane Kanté, have each been handed a five-match ban and fined $390 following their actions in Azam FC.

The disciplinary action comes after a heated Tanzania Premier League game against rivals Azam FC. The match took place on December 7, 2025, at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

According to the ruling, Sowah was punished for using his elbow on Azam player Himid Mao during the game. In a separate incident, his teammate Kanté received the same penalty for deliberately kicking Feisal Salum.

The bans are a huge setback for Simba SC. Losing two key players for five matches will be a huge challenge for the team as they fight for important points in the league.

The fines also add a financial cost to the absence of the players on the field.

The match against Azam FC was already known for its fiery and competitive nature, and these sanctions highlight the serious consequences of the incidents that occurred.
