Ghanaian sprint hurdler Yakubu Ibrahim has done it again. Competing at the Fastrack Last Chance Meet in New York, the athlete clocked a time of 7.68 seconds in the men’s 60m hurdles, breaking his own national indoor record.

Just a few weeks ago, on January 31, Ibrahim had set a new Ghana record with a time of 7.71 seconds. That performance had already improved upon the old mark of 7.85 seconds, which had stood since 2013. Now, the rising star has pushed the standard even higher, shaving off another 0.03 seconds.

At the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, Ibrahim looked sharp from the start. He showed quick speed to the first hurdle, clean technique, and kept a smooth rhythm throughout the race. His run displayed the confidence of an athlete in top form.

By lowering the national record twice in the same indoor season, Ibrahim is Ghana’s top sprint hurdler.

His progress also signals that he is ready to compete at a high level on the international stage.

From 7.85 to 7.71, and now to 7.68, the standard for Ghana’s sprint hurdles continues to rise.
