“Hearts of Oak have the best players and the best coach” – Don Bortey
Bernard Don Bortey, a legend of Accra Hearts of Oak, has expressed disappointment with the current performances of the club but insists the Phobians possess the best players and coach in the country.
According to Bortey who was speaking on Max FM’s Sports Pack, stressed on that the quality within the squad is strong enough for the team to be competing for the Ghana Premier League title.
“Hearts have the best players and the best coach in the country, so the team should be doing more. We have players like Hamza Issah who have previously challenged for the goal king award,” he said.
During his playing days, Bortey was part of the golden era of Hearts of Oak, helping the club win multiple league titles as well as continental trophies including the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup.
The former winger is currently the head coach of the club’s youth side, Auroras, and emphasized his willingness to support the senior team if called upon by head coach Didi Dramani.
“I do the work with passion, and if Didi Dramani wants me to help in any capacity, I’m ready,” he added.
Bortey also made a strong case for the promotion of players from the junior team, insisting the Auroras squad has the quality to strengthen the senior side.
“Auroras has a team that can compete with some Premier League teams. The club should take a look at some of the players in the junior team because we have the quality to help the senior team,” he stated.
