The Cape Coast Open Championship witnessed a remarkable display of speed on Monday as Jonathan Nkrumah Ofori of the Central Region delivered a commanding performance to win the U18/20 Boys’ 400m final.
His winning time of 45.33 seconds stands as one of the fastest junior one-lap times recorded at the championship this year.

In a race characterized by its intensity and depth of talent, Ofori executed a perfectly judged race. He seized control coming off the backstretch and demonstrated impressive strength through the final 100 metres to hold off a relentless chasing pack.
The competition for the minor medals was equally fierce, with Blessed Junior Owusu of the Ashanti Region taking the silver medal in a swift 45.60 seconds. He was closely followed by his regional compatriot, Opoku Godfred, who secured the bronze medal with a time of 45.62
Emmanuel Boakye finished fourth in a commendable 46.24 seconds, just edging out Kazali Iddrisu, who crossed the finishing line with a time of the 46.26. The final standings were rounded out by Okyere Jeff (48.20), Addo Peprah Christman (49.15), and Bernard Kwami Boafo (49.63).
The event at Cape Coast provided a compelling sneak peek of the future of Ghana’s sprinting, with multiple athletes breaking the 46-second barrier, an indicator of the talent emerging within the country’s junior ranks.
