Everton produced a commanding performance to defeat Chelsea 3-0 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, moving themselves to the edge of the Champions League conversation while extending the visitors’ losing streak to four matches.
A brace from striker Beto, with a goal in each half, secured back-to-back Premier League wins at home for the first time in the club’s history. Iliman Ndiaye added a spectacular third goal late in the match to complete a memorable evening for the home supporters.
The result leaves Chelsea in a difficult position as they chase a top-four finish. Manager Liam Rosenior acknowledged after the match that his side is going through a challenging period, with negative attention growing around the club following the latest defeat.
Chelsea controlled much of the possession throughout the game but were unable to turn their dominance into clear chances. Everton, by contrast, were efficient in front of goal, with Beto opening the scoring in the first half before doubling the lead after the break. Ndiaye’s stunning strike into the top corner in the final stages put the result beyond doubt.
Speaking after the final whistle, Rosenior said he is still learning about the demands of managing a club of Chelsea’s size. He accepted that the recent run of results has led to justified criticism but pointed to the team’s form since he took charge.
“I’m learning about this club. It’s a massive club,” Rosenior said. “There’s been a lot of noise, a lot of negative noise, rightfully so. Our performances in the last week. We’ve had 10 games in the league together as a group. We’ve got 17 points. I think we’re fourth in my time.
“So we have to forget the noise. We have to keep our confidence and our composure. The international break has probably come at a good time for us to restock, reenergise ourselves and go again for a really important run-in.”
The defeat means Chelsea missed an opportunity to close the gap on the teams above them in the race for Champions League qualification. With the international break now upon them, Rosenior will have time to work with his squad as they prepare for the final stretch of the season.
For Everton, the victory provides a boost to the team. The team has now won two consecutive home games for the first time and will look to build on this result as they aim to finish the season strongly.
