The enclave of Avatime is set to come alive once again as it hosts the 4th Edition of the Avatime Cycling Competition, widely known as the Avatime Challenge. Scheduled for Monday, April 6, 2026, the event is expected to draw cycling enthusiasts, professional riders, and spectators from across the Region and beyond.

Organized by the Avatime-Vane Citizens Association (AVACA) in collaboration with the Volta Region Cycling Association of Ghana, the competition continues to grow in stature, reinforcing its place on the Federation’s calendar. The initiative also reflects a broader commitment to promoting cycling as a competitive sport while showcasing the tourism potential of the Avatime area.

The race will commence at 8:00 a.m. from Avatime Vane, with Cyclists navigating a challenging 60-kilometre route. The course will take riders through Vane, Dzokpuita, Matse, Biakpa, and Dzolokpuita Newtown before returning to Vane.

This route not only tests endurance and skill but also offers breathtaking views of the region’s natural landscape.

Organizers have emphasized safety as a top priority for the event. All participants will be required to wear helmets and adhere strictly to race regulations. Cyclists are expected to remain within designated lanes and demonstrate respect for fellow riders throughout the competition.

In addition to the thrill of competition, the event will offer attractive incentives. Cash prizes will be awarded to cyclists who place from first to tenth, alongside participation awards aimed at encouraging wider involvement and celebrating the spirit of the sport.

Beyond the race itself, the Avatime Cycling Competition serves as a platform for community engagement and economic activity. It brings together residents, visitors, and stakeholders, fostering unity while boosting local tourism and small businesses.

The 2026 edition promises not only high-level competition but also a celebration of athleticism, discipline, and cultural pride in the heart of the Volta Region.
