Kotoko Goalie Mohamed Camara Slapped with Five-Match Ban for Referee Assault
Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Mohamed Camara has been handed a five-match suspension and fined GHS 20,000 by the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association following misconduct in a Ghana Premier League clash.
The sanctions stem from Kotoko’s 1-0 defeat to Karela United FC in Tamale, where Camara was found guilty of unsporting behaviour towards the match referee after the final whistle.
According to the Committee’s findings, the goalkeeper assaulted the referee in an incident that has drawn strong disciplinary action.
The ruling imposes an immediate five-match ban on Camara, ruling him out of Kotoko’s remaining fixtures this campaign.
In addition to the suspension, he has been fined GHS 20,000, which must be settled within 14 days of the official notification.
The Committee also issued a stern warning to the player, cautioning that any future misconduct could lead to more severe punishment.
The decision deals a significant blow to Kotoko as they navigate a crucial phase of the season, now forced to cope without their first-choice goalkeeper for the next five matches.
