GFA Sets September Kick-Off for 2026/27 Premier League Season

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has outlined a clear schedule for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League, confirming that the competition will begin in September and run through to late May 2027.

In a statement released by the association, the new season is slated to start across the weekend of September 4–7, 2026, before concluding on May 28–31, 2027. The timeline forms part of an approved football calendar aimed at bringing consistency to domestic competitions.

The latest announcement arrives as the current league campaign edges toward its conclusion. The 2025/26 season is expected to wrap up on the weekend of May 23, with just five matches remaining to determine final standings across the table.

The GFA indicated that the structure of matchdays will not change significantly, maintaining a schedule that prioritizes weekend fixtures.

League matches will primarily be played on weekends, while midweek slots will be reserved for only outstanding fixtures.”

This approach is designed to reduce fixture congestion while keeping room for rearranged games, a recurring challenge in previous campaigns.

Beyond the dates, the association placed emphasis on execution, stressing its readiness to deliver a well-organized season. “The GFA is committed to the smooth and efficient execution of the calendar,” the statement noted.

The early publication of the schedule is also being positioned as a practical step toward improving club preparedness. Teams in recent years have often entered new seasons without confirmed timelines, complicating preseason programs and transfer planning.

Addressing this concern, the GFA explained that “the early release of the season calendar helps members of the Ghana Football Association and all stakeholders to plan their season ahead.”

With several months’ notice, clubs are expected to structure training, recruitment, and logistics with greater certainty.
