Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has confirmed his final 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico this summer.

The defending European champions enter the tournament among the foremost contenders for the World Cup, and their squad announcement has eight Barcelona players.

The list, which spans all four positional groups, reflects De la Fuente’s unwavering faith in La Roja that claimed the UEFA Euro 2024 title in Germany.

I don’t look at any player’s club. I only look at whether they have the possibility of playing with us. I don’t look at whether they come from one team or another, I don’t have that localist mentality that a fan might have.” Luis de la Fuente, Spain Head Coach

De la Fuente’s remarks came in direct response to questions surrounding the conspicuous absence of any Real Madrid player from the final selection.

The coach was emphatic, insisting that his selection criteria remain entirely merit-based and performance-driven, divorced from club affiliation or political consideration.

Perhaps the most striking feature of the squad announcement is the scale of Barcelona’s contribution. A total of eight Camp Nou players have been included, reflecting both the club’s resurgent form under their current manager and the depth of Catalan talent coursing through Spain’s national pipeline.

Among the eight, Lamine Yamal stands as the most talked-about inclusion. The teenage winger, widely regarded as one of the most gifted players of his generation, enters the World Cup having already demonstrated his ability to perform at the highest level of international football.

Alongside him, midfield architects Pedri and Gavi when fit give Spain a creative heartbeat at the centre of the pitch.

Defenders Pau Cubarsí and Eric García add solidity to a backline that has conceded sparingly under De la Fuente’s stewardship, while goalkeeper Joan García provides experienced.

Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres complete the Barcelona contingent in attack, offering width, movement, and the capacity to unlock deep defensive blocks.
