Otto Addo Sends Condolences to Families of El-Wak Stadium Tragedy Victims During Military Recruitment Exercise

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives during Wednesday’s tragic military recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra.

Speaking ahead of Ghana’s international friendly against Japan, Addo described the incident as a “really serious matter” and extended the team’s sympathies to all affected by the tragedy.

We had a serious matter in Accra, where six people died,” Addo said. “The Black Stars first of all want to send out our deepest condolences and sympathy to the families and friends of those who died, and we pray for those who are still in hospital. It’s a really serious matter that happened during a military recruitment. There was a stampede where people died, and we are really thinking about them. We just want to send out our deepest condolences.”

The incident occurred when a large crowd gathered at the El-Wak Stadium for a military recruitment exercise, leading to a stampede that claimed six lives and left several others injured. Authorities have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Addo’s remarks underscore the national grief shared by Ghanaians in the wake of the incident, with the Black Stars joining the nation in mourning and solidarity with the bereaved families.
