The Ghana Paralympic Association has officially unveiled the country’s flag-bearers for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, setting the stage for a determined push towards glory in Glasgow.

A quartet of athletes, Haruna Tahiru, Bosto Nkegbe, Zinabu Hayford, and Promise Ahator have been handed the honour of wearing the national colours. In a major boost, each will pocket GHC10,000 to fuel their training and fine-tune preparations for the multi-sport showdown.

Speaking on behalf of the squad, a visibly moved Bosto Nkegbe hailed the financial package as “unmatched” and a huge psychological lift. He singled out the association’s leadership for the gesture, which he said had fired up the entire team.

Mr. Samson Deen, who doubles as President of the Africa Paralympic Committee and head of Ghana’s Paralympic movement, did not mince words. He declared that excellence would be non-negotiable and so would discipline.

Lack of discipline can wreck any dream,” Deen warned, urging the athletes to stay focused.

He also took aim at the country’s lopsided sports funding, arguing that even a sliver of what football receives could work wonders for para-sports.

Invest in para-athletes, and you invest in national pride,” he stressed.
