Government Commits Over GH¢76.4m to Black Stars Ahead of World Cup
The Government of Ghana has released GH¢76.4 million to support the Black Stars as the national team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The funding package, approved through the Ministry of Finance, is intended to cover tournament preparations and clear outstanding bonuses earned during Ghana’s qualification campaign.
A total of GH¢58.9 million, equivalent to US$5 million, has been advanced to finance the team’s participation in the competition, including expenses related to preparations and the group-stage matches.

Authorities say the early release of funds is aimed at ensuring the players and technical team have the resources needed to focus fully on their World Cup assignment.
Government has also disbursed GH¢17.5 million, equivalent to US$1.488 million, to settle the remaining qualification bonuses owed to the squad.
The payment completes an agreement under which players received half of their bonuses during the qualifiers, with the balance becoming due after securing a place at the World Cup.
Ghana played ten matches during the qualification series, and the latest payment rewards the team’s successful journey to the tournament.
The Black Stars will begin their campaign against Panama in Toronto on June 17 before facing England six days later in Foxborough.
Their final group-stage fixture will be against Croatia as Ghana seeks to advance beyond the opening round for the first time since the 2010 World Cup.
Government has urged Ghanaians to rally behind the team, expressing confidence that the financial backing will help create the right conditions for a successful campaign.
