Semenyo to Captain Black Stars as Anang and Kohn Prepare for Debuts Against Japan
Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo will lead the Black Stars out of the tunnel for the first time as Ghana prepare to face Japan in the Kirin Challenge Cup in Aichi.
The 25-year-old will wear the captain’s armband in the absence of regular leaders Jordan Ayew, Thomas Partey, and Mohammed Kudus, while Mohammed Salisu starts on the bench.
Head coach Otto Addo also hands international debuts to St. Patrick Athletics goalkeeper, Joseph Anang and Union Berlin left-back Derrick Kohn, marking an important moment for both players.
Kohn, who recently completed his nationality switch from Germany to represent Ghana, will finally get his first taste of international football in Ghanaian colours.
The match will serve as a key part of the Black Stars’ preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. With the tournament less than a year away, Addo will be using this clash to assess new options, build depth, and identify players who could secure their place in next year’s squad.
